Ugggghhhhhhhh.............!!!! Sorry, just had to get that out. Phew. The World Cup has officially entered that stage where I am a nervous wreck until the final whistle is blown in the final. Yes, I know, I'm far too emotionally invested in this sport but I just can't help it. I was a complete and total lost cause once I figured out when I was 3 I'd get free donuts whenever my sister had a game. Who knows what would have been if there were free donuts at her softball games? Priorities, right? ;-)
You know you've got it bad when you're in Paris visiting the Eiffel Tower and you stall going from Tier 2 to the top because you have the perfect view looking down on the French National Team practicing and you briefly forget about everything else.
No matter how many games I played, how many tournaments I was in, how many years I spent cheering on my sisters and how many thousands of miles I'll travel for this sport - Sudden Death will always be me undoing. Two shootouts this weekend nearly killed me. Maybe it's because I was a goalie for a long time or...well...you know, an entire career coming down to one kick...but I invariably spend every sudden death I watch hiding within my own shirt with only one eye peeking out or buried under every blanket within eye sight.
What I'm trying to say is that I'm apologizing now for the complete and total hot mess I will be tomorrow during the US/Belgium match. It's going to get ugly and I can't wait! Bless you Team USA for distracting me from the fact that England scored two goals and didn't win a single match. No matter what happens US Soccer has already won, no doubt about it. Regardless, this will be me:
